Computer Center Assistant

Our Main Library location has a part-time position available in the Computer Center.  We are looking for someone enthusiastic, dedicated to excellent customer service, and passionate about working with all community members.  

 Primary job duties include:

  • Providing excellent customer service to library users.
  • Assisting customers with logging into computers, accessing websites, and formatting documents.
  • Assisting customers with printing from PCs and mobile devices, scanning, copying, and faxing.
  • Preparing devices and the Computer Training Room for classes.
  • Maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for library users.
  • Data entry.

Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer service environment.
  • Hands-on experience using desktop/laptop computers, mobile devices, software, and apps.
  • Successful completion of a computer skills assessment test.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills preferred.

Part-Time: 18 hours per week; schedule subject to change and may include day, evening, and weekend hours.

Passport Services Assistant

Are you looking for an exciting part-time job in a vibrant community? We are currently looking for a Passport Services Assistant who can read and write in both English and Spanish to work at the Main Library location. This detail-oriented job includes responding to questions about the passport application process, reviewing passport paperwork, taking passport photos, and following library and U.S. Department of State procedures. The ideal candidate has excellent customer service skills and truly enjoys helping others.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish. Must be able to successfully complete language skills test at the proficient level.
  • Previous experience in a customer service environment.
  • Ability to complete annual passport acceptance certification and ongoing training.
  • Must be tactful and respect the confidentiality of library customers and staff.

Additional requirements specified by the U.S. Department of State to perform as a Passport Acceptance Agent:  

  • U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Does not have a record of either: (i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or (ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including but not limited to embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.

12 hours per week; schedule will include days, evenings, and weekend hours. The current schedule is 2:30PM to 8:30PM Monday and Wednesday or 3:00PM to 9:00PM Monday and Wednesday.

KidSpace Associate

Do you have a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? We are seeking an enthusiastic and adaptive individual to provide reference services, support for Storytimes, and plan and present preschool programs for our KidSpace Department. This role is ideal for someone passionate about early literacy and eager to engage children ages 0-8th grade and their caregivers. As a KidSpace Library Associate, you will connect families to literacy resources, foster a love for reading, and build community connections. Experience, creativity, and flexibility are necessary for fulfilling the library’s mission of meeting the evolving needs of a vibrant community. The ideal candidate will bring proficiency with technology, exceptional customer service and reader's advisory skills, comfort in a fast-paced environment, and—above all—a heartfelt enthusiasm for working with children of all ages.

In this role you will:

  • Assist, plan, and present preschool programs and events.
  • Coordinate special projects like the Welcome Baby program, Preschool Information Fair, and large-scale early literacy events.
  • Provide reader's advisory and reference assistance to children and their caregivers.
  • Work closely with the Early Literacy Team to support daily activities and special projects.

 

You will need to be:

  • Collaborative and able to build effective working relationships across all levels.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to learning and embraces challenges with a constructive attitude.
  • Adaptable to changing routines and excited to take on new tasks.
  • Experienced in providing excellent customer service.
  • Experienced in planning and presenting storytimes for small and large groups, or willing and eager to develop these skills.
  • Familiar with children’s literature, current trends, and resources to support diverse library users.
  • A motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience working with children.
  • Excellent presentation skills for groups of all sizes and ages.
  • Early literacy experience desirable.
  • Public library experience desirable.
  • Spanish language skills desired, but not mandatory.

Part-time; 28 hours per week. Schedule may be discussed during the interview process.

Pay rate:  $21.00 per hour + Excellent Benefits, including enrollment in IMRF and prorated time-off benefits.
