Are you a writer or artist? This is your chance to share your best work and see it in print!

You can submit work anytime during the year. If you'd like to be published as soon as possible, try to get your submission in by February 1 for the spring issue, May 1 for the summer issue, August 1 for the fall issue, and November 1 for the winter issue.

Written entries can be fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. Artwork can be photography, digital art, mixed media, hand-drawn – basically, anything goes!

How to participate

  • Email your piece to zone@gailborden.info. Please include your full name, grade, school, and the title of the work. We'd also love to know what media were used for art submissions - examples might be colored pencils, acrylic paint, or digital software. If you want to use a pseudonym or publish anonymously, just let us know in your message.

The fine print

  • You must be in grades 6-12 to participate.
  • The work you are submitting must be something you have created yourself. You can submit something you created on with a friend if the work is original and your friend has agreed to participate.
  • Please choose work that does not contain extremely graphic language or violence. (If your entry were a movie, it should be rated G, PG, or PG-13.)
  • By submitting your entry, you are giving Gail Borden Public Library permission to publish it online and in print. We will publish your work exactly as you submit it, so be sure to double-check your spelling and grammar.
  • We can publish one entry per person per submission period. If you send in two pieces, we will save the second for a future issue!
